Here We Go Again

Sigh. It’s happening again. With the emergence of the Omicron variant, we’ve seen an understandable increase in restrictions. In addition to border closures or additional travel paperwork, that means shops and restaurants the local level. Hopefully you had a travel advisor to call and work through your options!

In some cases, this may alter your travel plans because borders have literally closed. In others, you may no longer want to travel to the originally planned destination because the activities that inspired the trip are no longer available to you. While we were hoping Covid’s interference in our lives would be more of a thing of the past, it just can’t quit us. We’re very interesting and Covid is that creepy guy at the club who won’t stop trying to dance with you and your friends.

I have shifted some trips to an entirely new destination, some were postponed and some went off as originally planned. As mentioned in a previous post, anyone making travel plans has to be prepared for these possibilities and things we haven’t even thought of. When planning your upcoming trips, here are some key things to think about.

If you travel internationally, you have to take a covid test to return to the US. You may be vaccinated and have no symptoms but be required to quarantine if you test positive. Will you have coverage for your job, kids, pets, etc. until you test negative and are able to come home? If the answer to any of that is no, then you should not make international plans.

The good news is that many people are able to work remotely these days. If this is you, you can view it as an opportunity to be chained to a new desk for 10 days or so. If something serious were to happen, that’s where you rely on our travel insurance or evacuation services like Medjet. You prepare for these possibilities but hope they do not happen.

If that isn’t for you right now, it doesn’t mean you can’t travel at all. There are so many great domestic locations to explore. Working on a puzzle map of the United States, my son picked up quite a few that I have yet to get to… #travelgoals
